Earth – Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1

Drone pioneers Earth are back with a new album full of their slowed-down ambient metal. The name of the album is Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1, and this behemoth clocks in right around an hour with just 5 songs. Angels of Darkness builds on what they explored with The Bees Made Honey in the Lion’s Skull and also incorporate some cello into the songs on this album. The cello is a welcome addition, providing more warmth and texture to Earth’s overall sound. During the parts where the cello is more prominent, I can’t help but think they sound like a badass version of the Dirty Three. Angel’s of Darkness is already out on CD, but this is also getting the proper 2xLP 180 gram vinyl treatment, which comes out on April 26th, 2011. You get your choice of black or red vinyl, and while the 4th side of the LP doesn’t contain any music, it has an awesome etching of the Stacy Rozich cover art. The boys at Southern Lord have done a great job of putting this gorgeous package together.

Here’s some vinyl porn for ya’:
